Asleep, a leading sleep tech company in South Korea, is set to launch Z-Talk, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered sleep assistant, on December 12.
The assistant, which integrates OpenAI’s ChatGPT, provides users with detailed sleep analysis and personalized tips for better rest, along with tailored skincare recommendations based on their sleep data.
Users can receive daily updates via KakaoTalk, making it a convenient solution for improving sleep habits.
In a recent interview with Maeil Business Newspaper, Asleep’s Chief Executive Officer Lee Dong-heon noted that Z-Talk was designed to address the varying sleep patterns of individuals.
“Many people don’t fully understand their sleep habits. Our goal is to offer a companion that helps users achieve better sleep,” Lee said.
Z-Talk uses a smartphone app to record breathing sounds, analyzing sleep states through advanced AI technology.
ChatGPT translates this data into easily understandable insights, delivered in a conversational tone to encourage healthier sleep routines.
The product’s capabilities have been enhanced through a collaboration with L’Oréal.
Z-Talk suggests L’Oréal skincare products tailored to users’ specific needs.
For example, users lacking deep sleep, which affects cell regeneration and collagen production, are recommended peptide-enriched night creams. For those with reduced REM sleep, which can increase skin sensitivity, soothing serums with aloe vera are suggested.
Asleep began its partnership with L’Oréal last year and was recently named a finalist in L’Oréal’s startup accelerator program, which included 600 participating companies across Asia.
Founded in 2020, Asleep has invested over 20 billion won ($14.39 million) in researching the relationship between breathing sounds and sleep quality.
Its app was found to be more accurate in sleep measurement than Apple’s Apple Watch 8 and Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 in a 2022 study conducted with Stanford University’s School of Medicine and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.
The company has raised 24 billion won from investors, including InterVest, Kakao Ventures, Samsung Venture Investment, and Hana Bank.
Last month, Asleep achieved its first positive monthly EBITDA since its founding.
